this mug is handmade with love: wheel-thrown and decorated by hand. each ball of clay has its own shape, and I try to listen to the form as I’m throwing – so it is rare for any two to end up exactly the same. so, each mug ends up being unique and one of a kind.
the surface decoration on these pieces is a combination of sketching and painting using underglaze pencils and velvet underglazes. these pieces also have excerpts of poems I've written in or about the landscapes. the line on this one reads: "haven't we all been pushed to crater"
the imagery on this pieces, like most of my work, comes directly from spaces I have traveled to that left and impact. some of these sketches were even started during camping trips, as I sometimes will carry bisqueware with me.
all of my pieces are food, microwave, and dishwasher safe, although hand washing is recommended for any handmade ceramic piece.
I do the best I can to accurately photograph these pieces using natural lighting, but glaze colors can appear differently in various lighting environments.
